New inlet and outlet for brass strip coating line before introduction

C-Technik Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH has mastered several challenges during the renewal and expansion of a strip coating line at a customer in western Germany. Not only that the confined space in the hall complicates the renewals and rebuilds. In addition, the adaptation of the new strip infeed and discharge to the externally installed coating system requires the most precise detail work.

At the beginning of the brass strip infeed there is the coil lifting carriage designed for coils of up to 1.9 m diameter and the reel with a variable internal diameter. The cropping shears then stored cut off damaged and deformed material at the beginning of the strip. In order to maintain the overall tension of the brass strip during processing and to ensure a continuous, uniform processing process, the end piece of the previously processed strip is mechanically fixed and welded to the newly inserted, cleanly cut strip.

The core of the start-up process is the loop tower, which varies the running distance for the brass strip to be covered in order to enable a coil change with continuous, uniform further processing. When a "fresh" coil is being unwound, the loop tower is first filled by extending the distance to be covered by the strip by means of mobile rollers. If the end piece is cut off from the coil and fixed, the strip accumulated in the loop tower continues to enter the strip preparation process evenly in parallel. There are now four minutes left to insert the next coil, weld the strips together and start the strip run-up in the loop tower from the front.

In reverse order, these processes then pass through the outlet of the line. The processed brass strip is fed through a strip thickness test into the loop tower and "stored" there when a coil change is being carried out. Once this has happened and the strip is wound as a new coil, the sling tower empties. A special feature during winding is that an additional strip of paper is also wound into the freshly processed strip in order to protect the freshly coated brass strip.
